Manhattan report filed by bureau engineer, installation and
maintainance of BANGBANG camera node. Location 23rd and 6th
Comment Data: FADE-TO-BLACK BITCAM.
Slow Trigger: Slow state change. BITcam oriented straight up in
center of Manhattan. Accretion of black film on camera lens
gradually occludes image. Full opacity triggers bureau agent
alert and camera lens is cleaned. Last wipedown date and time
recorded on transmitted image. Regular capture automated into
database so reconstructed playthru of accumulation history can
be streamed and viewed.
Site: 23st/6th Ave, approximately central district. Carbon film
familiar to Manhattan residents for settling on floors and
windowsills is due to diesel and powerplant emissions.
Sensor Incorporation and further
development: Software image analysis for opacity required. no
local custom hardware required. no custom bitcam (lowpower,
local processors, wireless) required. can deploy lowend webcam
adapted with simple flat glass insert (use widespectrum optical
clear glass). Extension of a FADE-TO-BLACK bitcams will allow
comparisons of air qualities: e.g. ash and fiber particulate
pollution in a SE Bronx located cam. International comparisons
in terms of accumulation rates and particulate composition would
follow. Development of new bureau Scuba/Air visibility metrics
with epidemiological datasets on Asthma rates and other
conditions; datasets from scuba diving clubs on current water
visibility can be used in comparions: e.g. Pacific to Red Sea
visibility continuum. Further investigation into visual effects
of photochemical smog filtering - for optical effect and
spectral analysis.
Current Status: bitcam in place. currently monitoring |
